Overview

Choose from 50+ degree and certificate options that fit your goals and your timeline.

A bachelor’s degree requires completion of at least 120 credit hours. 

  • Bachelor of Applied Science: Prepares students for employment or advancement in a specific career with more in-depth knowledge and practical application of skills. 

An associate degree requires completion of at least 60 semester credit hours (two years of full-time enrollment). COTC offers three types of associate degrees:

  • Associate of Arts and Associate of Science: Complete the first two years of a bachelor’s degree and transfer to any public four-year university in Ohio.
  • Associate of Applied Business and Associate of Applied Science: Prepare students for immediate employment after graduation with a specific career focus, and in many cases, can also transfer to a four-year university.
  • Associate of Technical Studies: A customized degree designed by the student with guidance and approval by COTC. 

Some associate degrees also allow students to choose a major. A major is an area of specialization within an associate degree.

COTC also offers two certificate options for students, which can be completed in as little as one semester or up to one year. 

  • Short-Term Certificate: An award for the completion of less than 30 semester credit hours for a specific career. 
  • One-Year Certificate: An award for the completion of 30 semester credit hours or more for a specific career.

Associate of Applied Business
The accounting technology program curriculum includes coursework on auditing, taxation, fraud examination, forensic accounting, finance and cost management.

Short-Term Certificate
The addiction studies certificate program prepares individuals to work in an entry-level position in many community health programs. Coursework includes training in how to assist individuals and families with a variety of issues arising from addiction problems.

The Associate of Arts is designed to help students with an interest in the arts meet the requirements of the first two years of a four-year bachelor’s degree.

The Associate of Arts with a concentration in economics is designed to give students with an interest in economics an affordable and accessible start to their first two years of a four-year degree.

This transfer degree is for students who want to complete the first two years of a bachelor’s degree and to transfer seamlessly to any public college or university in the state of Ohio to pursue a bachelor’s degree in social work.

This course prepares basic healthcare workers with the skills required by the Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP) prior to gaining eligibility to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA).

Behavioral and mental health technicians and aides care for people who have mental illness and developmental disabilities. After completing the certificate, you will be able to define and demonstrate an understanding of core social science concepts through the study of psychology.

A community health worker serves as a liaison or intermediary between the community and health/social services offered within a community. With this certificate you can begin working in community healthcare right away.

The early childhood education technology associate degree at COTC prepares you for a rewarding career as professional lead and assistant teacher of children birth (infant/toddler) through preschool ages (3-5 years) and as an assistant teacher in the public school setting.

With input from existing local employers, these degrees and certificates are designed to give students a well-rounded base of education that will allow them to move into any type of high-performance manufacturing at the technician level.

Under the supervision of physicians and/or nurses, electrocardiograph technicians operate equipment that records and measures heart activity (EKG/ECG diagnostic examinations) and report results to the treatment team.

This certificate program trains certified dental assistants in the art of restorative dentistry. Graduates are eligible to sit for the EFDA exam through the Commission on Dental Testing.

COTC’s Peace Officer Basic Training Academy exceeds the requirements of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) and positions students to excel on the state certification exam to become a peace officer in Ohio. Graduates also earn credits toward an associate degree in law enforcement technology.

Short-Term Certificate

Phlebotomists draw blood for tests, transfusions, research or blood donations. They primarily work in hospitals, ambulatory centers, clinics, medical and diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers, and doctors’ offices.

Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) provide basic medical care. They work under the direction of registered nurses (RNs) and doctors. LPNs are responsible for administering basic nursing care and monitoring a patient’s health.

Radiologic technologists perform diagnostic imaging procedures such as x-ray, MRI and CT.
