Overview
Case managers typically work as part of a team to assess, plan, coordinate, implement, monitor and evaluate options and services to meet people’s health and human service needs.They assist other social workers and help clients locate benefits or community services. This certificate is for students interested in healthcare, human services (with emphasis in gerontology or working with people who are aging) or a combination of both.
Case managers provide support for families in a wide variety of fields including:
- behavioral health
- rehabilitation
- public health
- forensics
- addiction services
Licensed practical nurses and registered nurses will often pursue this certificate to increase their case management skills in patient care settings and enhance their education.
Credits earned with this certificate count towards two associate degrees at COTC, an Associate of Applied Science in Social Work Assistant or an Associate of Applied Science in Health Services Technology.

Credits earned for the case management for the healthcare and gerontology professional certificate count toward COTC’s associate degrees:
Four courses (12 credit hours) can be applied toward an Associate of Applied Science in Social Work Assistant.
Two courses (six credit hours) can be applied toward an Associate of Applied Science in Health Services Technology.

Every student is encouraged to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for grants, scholarships and loans. Students who complete the FAFSA are automatically considered for some scholarships. Other scholarships require an application.
