Overview

Under the supervision of physicians and/or nurses, electrocardiograph technicians operate equipment that records and measures heart activity (EKG/ECG diagnostic examinations) and report results to the treatment team. These measurements are used to assist cardiologists and other physicians in diagnosing and treating problems with a patient’s heart and blood vessels.

With this certificate you can begin working in healthcare right away. You will also be prepared to continue your education with COTC’s Associate of Applied Science in Health Services Technology.

By completing this course, you:

  • learn about human biology, medical terminology, selected cardiovascular medications and effects, basic patient care and professional standards
  • build a strong foundation for academic progression in healthcare

Program Outcomes

Upon completion of the electrocardiograph technician program, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of human body structure, function and pathology.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac electrophysiology.
  • Demonstrate completion of appropriate diagnostic studies including but not limited to EKG, ECG, telemetry.
  • Correctly identify basic rhythms, lethal rhythms and artifacts.

You will take classes on campus to use equipment and engage in hands-on learning.
