Behavioral and Mental Health Technician
Short-Term Certificate
Overview
Behavioral and mental health technicians work as a member of a team under the supervision of psychologists, psychiatrists and counselors to provide therapeutic care in mental health and developmental disabilities. Technicians coordinate mental health services, interview patients, document treatments and help patients with their needs.
By completing this course, you will be eligible for employment in:
- hospitals
- community mental health centers
- psychiatric clinics
- social service agencies
- geriatric nursing homes
With this certificate you can begin working in social work right away. You will also be prepared to continue your education with COTC’s Associate of Applied Science in Social Work Assistant.
Certification
Specialty certification for mental health technicians is available through the National Career Certification Board (NCCB).
