The Officer Thomas W. Cottrell, Jr. Award for Character and Dedication to Public Service is given out at each Peace Officer Basic Training graduation ceremony during the academic year. The selection of the recipients is based on many factors including, but not limited to, academic success and overall leadership and character.

The $1,000 award assists the recipient with equipment purchases and other expenses associated with beginning a career in law enforcement.

Pre-Admission Course Requirements

The Associate of Applied Science degree program in Surgical Technology is a selection-based program, meaning a student must APPLY to the program and then be SELECTED into the program before being able to meet graduation requirements. 

A grade of C (2.00) or better is required for all Surgical Technology, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, and Medical Terminology courses in order to continue in and graduate from the Surgical Technology program.

Policies of the Surgical Technology program which are unique in regard to admission, re-admission, grading, and promotion are available in the Surgical Technology Student Handbook, Division of Health Technologies.

All Surgical Technology core courses (Didactics Only) are offered online.

Nursing Technology Certificate Plan – State Tested Nurses Aide

Basic health care workers are needed in many areas within the health care continuum of wellness, acute care, and restorative care.  COTC prepares the student with the communication, basic personal care and safety skills required to become a STNA.  The course also provides a home health module, assisting the student to gain theory in home health care.  This certificate allows the student to take the state test for nurse aides. To become eligible to take the state testing examination, the student must successfully complete the following course at COTC:
