Emergency Medical Services – Emergency Medical Technician Short-Term Certificate

Central Ohio Technical College offers an Emergency Medical Technician course for those persons interested in seeking initial EMS certification. 

EMS-120

Emergency Medical Technician

7 semester credit hours

9 contact hours (6 hours lecture and 3 hours lab)​

Course Description

Prerequisite: CPR Certification (Recommended)

This Emergency Medical Services course covers all aspects of emergency medical care in the field including equipment, controlling the situation, anatomy and physiology, medical and trauma emergencies, and airway control. This course at its successful completion allows the student to take the national registry exam to become certified at the EMT Level. This course provides a first phase of training in the career structure of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). The course covers all knowledge and skills required for the national certification examination. Course includes 15 clock hours of clinical experience. A student must pass the class with a B- grade (2.70) or better and a minimum of 70 percent on the final exam in order to graduate and be eligible to sit for the NREMT exam.

EMS-120 meets Ohio CTransfer (C-Tag) Assurance Guide standards for course CTEMTB002.

This program is not currently eligible for Title IV financial aid.

For Brittany Klinkert, life keeps her on her toes. The Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) alumna is not only a mother of three, but she also recently opened a Newark-based childcare center that brings an additional 20 children into her care.

Earn College Credit in Half the Time with COTC’s Accelerated Courses

Still time to enroll at COTC this spring

There’s still time to enroll at Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) this spring. Registration is open for the college’s second-term accelerated courses, which start March 7. Accelerated classes allow students to earn the same college credit as full-length semester courses in half the time.

Patient Care Technician

Short-Term Certificate

Patient care technicians with multiple skills play a vital role in direct patient care. After completing the certificate, the student will be certified as a State Tested Nurse Aide and become certified in CPR. Phlebotomy and electrocardiogram (ECG) are also part of this certificate. The student will be eligible to sit for the phlebotomy and electrophysiology certification exam. This will allow the student to be job ready upon completion of this certificate.
