Overview

Manufacturing engineering technicians operate metal-removing equipment such as lathes, drill presses, milling machines and grinders, many of which are computer numerically controlled (CNC). Manufacturing technicians may specialize in operating one type of machine or they may be required to work equally well on several. They may work in small machining shops or in manufacturing industries, such as machinery or transportation equipment manufacturing.

To accommodate working students, some courses are available during the evening and students may enroll full or part-time.  Students who complete the program requirements are awarded the Associate of Applied Science in Manufacturing Engineering Technology.

Curriculum include courses designed to help graduates:

  • Develop skills in shop mathematics, blueprint reading, machining processes, precision layout and measurement, organization, communication, teamwork, and programming and operating CNC machines
  • Operate engine lathes, drill presses, grinders, horizontal and vertical mills, and computer numerical controlled (CNC) machining and turning centers
  • Use precision layout, measuring/gauging tools
  • Have career opportunities as either manufacturing technicians or computer control programmers and operato

This organization is made up of undergraduate and graduate students whom are currently enrolled or alumni in any engineering technology field available at COTC and Ohio State Newark. SET’s purpose is to raise awareness of educational & career opportunities available to a student’s preferred engineering technology field.
