Diagnostic Medical Sonography Technology
Ohio’s first and only accelerated bachelor’s degree.
Prepare for a career as a registered sonographer with COTC’s Bachelor of Applied Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography Technology (BAS in DMS). The BAS in DMS incorporates the highly regarded curriculum of our former associate degree program with advanced training in special modalities, giving graduates a competitive edge in the job market.
Application deadline: May 1. Classes start autumn semester.
Finish in Three Years
The BAS in DMS is an accelerated, three-year program — the first of its kind in Ohio. You attend full time for eight consecutive semesters, participating in five clinical rotations and earning your sonographer credentials as you go.
Choose Your Specialty
Sonographers use ultrasound technology to generate images used for assessing and diagnosing various medical conditions. At COTC, you can choose from two majors to guide your career path.
- General Major: Abdominal organs, obstetrics and gynecology, musculoskeletal muscles and tendons, neonatal brain and pediatrics
- Cardiac Major: Adult heart, EKG, cerebrovascular carotid arteries and brain, peripheral blood flow of vessels in arms and legs, abdominal arteries and veins
History of Excellence
100% of DMS students in the class of 2021 passed a sonography credentialing exam and are employed in their field of study. They join a long-running tradition of excellence in COTC’s DMS program that extends to successful careers after graduation.
Career Driven
This program was designed with input from industry — including our clinical partners, employers and even graduates — to meet today’s hiring needs. The demand for diagnostic medical sonographers in Ohio continues to increase, with employment expected to grow 15% according to Ohio Labor Market Information.

Earn a bachelor’s degree at COTC’s already low tuition rate. At the current rate, the total tuition of the BAS in DMS is less than $20,000. COTC also has more than $1 million in scholarship available annually to keep education costs as low as possible.
