Potawatomi Removals: Forced and “Voluntary”
Zoom Webinar on Monday, Oct 11 at 7 p.m.
The removals of many Potawatomi from the land regions of around southern Lake Michigan – the result of socio-political, cultural conflict, and diminishing resource pressures – is the focus of this event. The “voluntary” removals, largely traced back to the Chicago 1833 treaty, and one forced removal, the Trail of Death, will be discussed in detail by our speaker, Dr. George Godfrey.
Dia De Los Muertos Art Tour
The Sofia Quintero Art and Cultural Center is a non-profit Latino art organization working to promote and share Latino culture in the Toledo, Ohio area. Every year they host a large Dia De Los Muertos celebration that is steeped in culture, heritage, and tradition. The Student Engagement Team (SET) seeks to bring the rich history and celebratory traditions from this holiday into a virtual setting where education about this celebration can occur. This will be a presentation given by the Executive Director for the Sofia Quintero Art and Cultural Center, Taylor Burciaga.
