Free Emergency Medical Technician Basic Certificate Available at COTC Coshocton

Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) is bringing the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic Certificate to the Coshocton campus this fall.

This certificate course can be completed in just 15 weeks. It will be offered at COTC’s Coshocton campus during the autumn semester beginning August 25 and ending December 13. Classes are on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 10 with some Saturdays. 

This course will be offered free of cost to all students. The tuition for this certificate is covered through a combination of Ohio’s short-term certificate grant, which provides up to $1,000 per student enrolled in a certificate program that leads to an industry-recognized credential for an in-demand job, with the remaining tuition covered by a scholarship from the Coshocton Foundation. 

After completion of this course, students take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician exam for certification as an EMT. First on the scene in an emergency, EMTs administer first-aid treatment, sometimes providing life-saving care, to people who have suffered an illness or injury outside of a hospital setting. After becoming a certified EMT, students may continue at COTC in the Paramedic One-Year Certificate program to provide advanced care. Credits earned in the paramedic program count toward an associate degree in emergency medical services technology, a popular choice for students seeking a professional career with the ability for promotion.

Tuesday, April 21 at 10 a.m. 

Thursday, May 28 at 2 p.m. 

Monday, June 8 at 2 p.m. 

Wednesday, July 29 at 10 a.m.

Registration is limited to the first 20 students who complete the requirements as presented in the information sessions by July 31. You must also obtain a background check and submit results to COTC prior to the first day of class. Background checks are available for purchase by prospective students at COTC’s Department of Public Safety on the Newark campus (no appointment needed; please call 740-366-9237 upon arrival) or at the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office (by appointment).
