COTC Registered Nursing Grads Achieve 100% Pass Rate on National Licensing Exam
Both RN and LPN grads exceed state and national scores
Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) is celebrating the outstanding accomplishments of its December 2019 nursing graduates.
Sixty-nine Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Technology graduates who have taken the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) to become a registered nurse passed this mandatory licensing test on their first attempt, giving the class its exceptional 100% pass rate. The average pass rate for all registered nursing programs across the state of Ohio is only 86.5%; the national pass rate is 89.52%. COTC’s associate degree nursing NCLEX-RN annual pass rates have exceeded the national pass rate since 2016.
“These pass rates demonstrate the quality of the program as well as the dedication of the faculty and students to safe patient care,” said Sandra Walker, EJD, COTC dean for technical studies.
Graduates of COTC’s practical nursing certificate program achieved an 86.21% pass rate on the NCLEX-PN to become a licensed practical nurse (LPN), outpacing both the state and national averages which are 82.55% and 86.05% respectively. This is the third consecutive year that COTC’s LPN NCLEX-PN pass rate has exceeded the national average pass rate.
“We are extremely proud of our graduates in achieving this recognition,” said Annie Carpenter, EdD, COTC nursing program administrator. “Our faculty very carefully guide and prepare our students for this licensing exam, walking side-by-side with them through every step of their coursework and clinical experiences.”
COTC’s nursing programs are widely recognized as among the best in central Ohio. COTC offers associate degree nursing (ADN), a traditional five-semester plan of study; practical nursing (PN), a one-year certificate program; LPN to ADN transition, a three-semester transition option for LPNs; and State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA) course.
